Our Story

The Let Your Hair Down Project was born from a simple yet profound belief: that dance has the extraordinary power to heal, unite, and transform lives. Founded with the vision of offering free weekly dancing sessions to our local community, we recognised that mental health support doesn't always come in traditional forms. Sometimes, it comes through the rhythm of music, the freedom of movement, and the warmth of human connection.

Our journey began when we witnessed firsthand how dance could break down barriers, lift spirits, and create lasting bonds between strangers. We saw people arrive carrying the weight of stress, anxiety, and isolation, only to leave with lighter hearts, new friendships, and renewed hope. This transformation became our mission.

The Science Behind Our Approach

Dance therapy and movement-based interventions have been scientifically proven to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve self-esteem, and enhance overall quality of life. When we dance, our bodies release endorphins—natural mood elevators that help combat stress and promote feelings of happiness and wellbeing.

Moreover, the social aspect of group dancing creates oxytocin, often called the "bonding hormone," which strengthens social connections and reduces feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Every Saturday, we open our doors to anyone who wants to join us. No experience necessary, no judgment, just pure joy in movement.
